VideoGarden: Community

The film program explores various ways of forming communities, from the gradual formation of a community between two friends looking for work, to a temporary protest community where alliances are formed quickly and dissolve even faster, to a caring community far from the madding crowd, and ultimately to a community that must reinvent its infrastructure. Through various detours, the program attempts to outline the steps necessary for building a community, even though these repeatedly prove to be temporary formations, subject to constant reconfiguration.

• Diego Menendes: Ljubljana Stories 2, 2013, 9′

Two men from Fužine, Prle and Matija, are strolling through the Štepanjsko neighborhood and notice some interesting details—an absurd story with an even more absurd twist.

• Miha Možina: Shrivelin’ Slovenians: ROTESTING TO THE CHOIR, 2020, 11′

A peculiar cast of dissatisfied Slovenians from all walks of life gather for a quite schizophrenic protest during the pandemic lockdown. Will this petite nation full of potential ever be able to come together with enough lucidity to deal with their past and achieve a better tomorrow or will they shrivel away?

• Ester Ivakič: Assunta, 2018, 18′

Somewhere far away from the village and people, four hundred wind gusts away, Marija and Drevo are dealing with the acceptance of the upcoming loss of their friend.

• Nikita Kopitin: Raising Dust, 2025 30′

When Nikita Ko returned to his second homeland Montenegro in 2022, he was cut off from the skate community due to the ongoing war. There were no local skaters, no skateparks, and the street spots left much to be desired. While exploring the beauty of the Balkan Peninsula, Nikita realised he was surrounded by a skate-able environment.

VideoDvorišče is a program of curated screenings and discussions on art, video, and film, hosted in the inner courtyard of Galerija Škuc during the spring and summer seasons. As we move out of the dark cinema and the gallery space into the open air, the gallery courtyard becomes a place for gatherings, screenings, and conversations around selected film, video, and new media works. The program is developed in collaboration with SCCA-Ljubljana and the DIVA Station archive.

DIVA Station is an online and physical archive developed by SCCA-Ljubljana since 2005 with the aim of researching, documenting, archiving, and presenting artist film, video, and new media art.

In case of rain, the screening will take place inside the gallery.
The discussion with the participating artists will be held in English.
