The book accompanying the jubilee exhibition AUSSTELLUNG! LAIBACH KUNST 1980–1984 at Škuc Gallery, focuses on the artistic practice of Laibach Kunst, its significance and reception during Laibach’s intense activity within the Ljubljana and Yugoslav alternative scene in the first half of the 1980s. Six texts (Barbara Borčić, Lilijana Stepančič, Eda Čufer, Dragan Živadinov, Leonida Kovač in Slavko Timotijević) analyse and interpret Laibach’s artistic and media activities, their images, methods and processes, and reflect on the first exhibitions in the three urban centres of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia – Belgrade, Ljubljana and Zagreb. These formative exhibitions grounded the method of retro-avantgarde and the artistic processes of appropriation and montage, and introduced a characteristic world of motifs, imaginary and system of symbols that stimulated intense associations and a multitude of diverse interpretations.
